Bell Big 5 MTB Series 2017 – The MTB Series in Zululand

Welcome to the 2017 Bell Big 5 MTB Series – THE only MTB Series to be held in Zululand and to top it is held in 5 very different locations over 6 months, all with wonderfully diverse routes which cater for the new and inexperienced cyclists needing encouragement right up to the fit racing snakes.

Our 2017 DATES are as follows:

Mtunzini               14 May

Empangeni           25 June

Kwambonambi    16 July

Hluhluwe              3 September

Monzi                    1 October with Series prize giving immediately following the area prize giving.

Please note there has been a swop between Monzi and Hluhluwe due to the school holidays.

A notable change is the START times due to unpredictable hot weather in Hluhluwe last year we are starting all our races earlier this year – so plan your trip early and book accommodation if need be.

50km race will START at 7.30am

25km race will start at 8.00am

10km race when the route is clear it will start but approx. half an hour after the final batch from 25km riders has left.

Our distances offered at all the races are 10km for schoolchildren U10, accompanying parents and anyone who is a real beginner at cycling events, 25km for those that are inexperienced or unfit riders and need to brush the cobwebs out and build up their fitness and then the 50km for the experienced and fit ( brave sometimes).

We are using ROAG to do all our entries and results and Elite timing for the timing.

This year we are again using the Grand Prix system of points and ROAG have a log in place for the Bell Big 5 MTB Series so the participants can log in at any time and see where they stand in the results.

What has not changed is that you may still drop one of the 5 races and your points from your BEST FOUR races will be considered for the overall results.

A BIG Change is the race age distance categories one would be eligible for a trophy.

10km will all be timed this year but only top 3 boys and girls U10 (Nippers) will be eligible for a trophy.

Only 10km riders will all get medals this year and we will revert back to awarding all of those 25km and 50km riders with a special Challenge medal if they started and completed all five races.

We have changed to fit in line with UCI and KZN cycling age categories per distance.

Pre enter the CHALLENGE and although you have to enter all five races before the 10th May ( you will see a separate Challenge entry form) you will only pay for four AND you will receive a long sleeved moisture controlled shirt as well as an area t-shirt at every area you race.

An example of the area Bell Big 5 MTB Series t-shirts available to those that pre enter the Challenge and collect at registration of the area race.

That is guaranteed. As long as you pre enter before 10 May and you arrive to collect your t-shirt at registration at each area race. We may not get you your correct size if you leave the pre entry too late as the shirts have to be made up at least 3 weeks before the first race.

Another incentive to pre enter (you may pre enter each race individually but then do not qualify for a Challenge shirt and we cannot guarantee an area t-shirt either) is if you are a family of 4 or more you will qualify for a bulk discount.

We will be putting up race routes and go pro footage to entice you to come and enjoy a great outing with plenty to do for the whole family. The events are always well catered, safe enviroments and encourage family participation.

We look forward to seeing your name on the Challenge entry list  (pre entries for all five races) and handing out your special Challenge t-shirts at registration in Mtunzini on Saturday 13th May from 3.30pm – 5.30pm and the next morning from 6am – 8.30am.

Don’t forget your ROAG boards!
